A Cat Café in Los Angeles is Saving the City's Most At-Risk Kitties

Right Here. Right Meow.

L.A.’s first-ever non-profit cat café is now open. It's located in West Los Angeles.

Founder Kristi Labrenz, got the inspiration after visiting a cat café in Japan. Citing the value of providing cats a space where they can exist without fear while waiting to be adopted, Labrenz founded the CatCafe Lounge which has already provided fur-ever homes for 67 of L.A.’s most at-risk cats and has saved over 95 from being euthanized.

Labrenz says the most rewarding part of running a cat café is when a new cat is delivered, and it realizes it no longer has to be afraid of its surroundings.

"When they decide to come out of their shell, I get goosebumps. Knowing you just changed the life of another being for the better, and for good - that feeling is indescribable," she says.

Here’s how it works: Guests to the café pay a $25 donation that entitles them to a complimentary coffee or tea, and an hour with the kitties.

After check-in, guests will receive their beverage, sanitize their hands, and enter a room best described as a feline-lover’s paradise on earth complete with 30-35 fully adoptable cats. Best of all, since the CatCafé Lounge is a non-profit, that $25 donation is 100% tax deductible, and goes towards the café’s ongoing mission of socializing and finding fur-ever homes for every cat that makes a home within its walls.

Since each seating is limited to 15 people, reservations are highly encouraged, and can be made by visiting www.catcafelounge.com/visit. If guests are looking for something a little more private, the café (and more importantly, the cats) are also available for private parties.

The café is located in West LA, and boasts a roomy, easily accessed parking lot for its guests.

CatCafé Lounge is open from 11:00 AM-8:00 PM (each day’s final seating is 7:00 PM), Wednesday-Monday. Reservations are highly encouraged as each seating is limited. For more information, visit www.catcafélounge.com or call (323) 645-9113.
